Course Description: This course will provide participants with information on infection control such as the importance of handwashing and fingernail hygiene. Standard Precautions are covered as well as a discussion on major microbes such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. Facility needs for infection control, such as environmental control, pest control, airflow, people flow, and work flow are discussed. Basic information on decontamination instruments is presented.

Target Audience: Nurses and all Clinical Staff who work with sterilization and decontamination of instruments

Learning Outcomes: After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:
1. Discuss the basics of infection control.
2. Describe facility needs for infection control and sterile processing.
3. Discuss the decontamination process.
