Course Description: This course will provide healthcare professionals best practice techniques for patients receiving moderate sedation and analgesia.

Learning objectives: After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

1. Identify different levels of sedation along with patient assessment prior to sedation.

2. Describe preparation and monitoring parameters for sedation.

3. Select medications used for sedation and reversal of sedation.

4. Explain management of complications during sedation.

Length of Course: 75 minutes

Credit Statements:

Licensed Nurses: Upstate AHEC is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Upon successful completion of this program, participants will receive ­­­­1.25 nursing continuing professional development hours and 0.25 pharmacology hour.

Respiratory Care Practitioners: 1.25 clock hours will be awarded by Upstate AHEC an approved provider continuing education for respiratory care practitioners by the SC board of Medical Examiners.

AHEC Credit: This educational offering provides 0.125 CEUs (1.25 clock hours) by Upstate AHEC and meets SC AHEC Best Practice Standards.
