Course Description: This course will provide participants with a broader understanding of hip fractures, nursing care, complications and prevention of complications associated with hip fractures.

Learning Outcomes: After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:
1. Describe the anatomy of the hip.
2. Discuss the basics of pathological and traumatic hip fractures.
3. Describe the treatment options and outcomes for subcapital, trochanteric and suptrochanteric fractures.
4. Discuss the principles of fixation types including inter and extra medullary fixation.
5. Identify the indications for performing a THA in hip fracture.
6. Describe the preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative nursing care needed for the hip fractures population.
7. Describe common complications including: pain, hydration, decreased mobility, foley catheter, embolism, and wound infections.
8. Discuss prevention strategies for above mentioned complications.
