Course Description: This course will identify assist the healthcare worker to gain strategies and exercise to protect the back.

Learning Outcomes: After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

·        Discuss the scope of back pain in the healthcare profession.

·        Identify contributing factors (internal and external) to back injury

·        List all the components of the “core” and how to strengthen each

·        Identify the differences between primary and secondary preventative measures

·        Identify ergonomic components of patient transfers, with and without equipment

·        Engage in a 5-minute work out designed to strengthen the healthcare professional in preparation for transfers


Instructional Method: Asynchronous online PPT Lecture/Videos and live demonstration with prop/Pre Test/Post Test

Length of Course: 60 minutes

Licensed Nurses:  Upstate AHEC is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Upon successful completion of this program, participants will receive 1.0 nursing continuing professional development contact hour.

 Massage Therapy Credit:  This program has been approved for 1.2 hours of continuing education by the SC Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation for Massage Therapy. SC State Provider Number is 2.

AHEC Credit: This educational offering provides 0.1 CEU (1.0  clock hour) by Upstate AHEC and meets SC AHEC Best Practice Standards.
